Croatian Music Piece
“Stade Sunce I Zenske Mimico Kolo”
My name is Olivia M. and I am
from Australia but my grandparents and most of family are from Croatia. I’ve
grown up singing Croatian music and this is my favourite piece by far. It’s a
piece from the inner region of Croatian known as Lika or Bosna. It is originally
a solo piece with a woman singing and her ‘tempo’ is kept by another group of
women doing a special dance that is specifically made for the piece. During the
piece there is also a spinning plate turned by another woman, which is meant to
magnify and add tone colour to the singer’s voice. The name of the piece itself
means ‘Old Sun’ (stade Sunce) and is originally a piece describing beautiful
scenery.
